Goverment with support from IFAD introduced a programme know as Sustainable Agricultural Production Programme (SAPP). SAPP is one of the “earmarked” projects within the Ministry of Agriculture Irrigation and Water Development. It has a lifespan of 9 years and its implementations falls within the ASWAP framework. The programme aims at contributing a poverty reduction and improved food security among rural populations throught achieving a viable and sustainable smallholder agricultural sector employing good agriculture practices (GAP) in Malawi. These objectives are consistent with the national goals as stipulated in the ASWAp of the Government of Malawi. The project is being implemented is six disstricts: Chitipa, Nkhotakota, Lilongwe, Balaka, Chiradzulu and Blantyre. the project intends to reach approximately 200,000 smallholder households in these 6 target districts.
